Business and Department

Our Retail business supplies gas and electricity to over 5 million households and businesses across the UK.

We work hard to deliver competitive gas and electricity rates and tariffs, as well as products and services that put you in control of your energy - from boiler cover to our remote heating control solution.

The Business Continuity function sits within our Operational Assurance Department, which focusses on risks facing the business. The teams aim to provide assurance to our senior management team that key risks are properly managed and our business continually improves.


There is an opportunity for a summer placement within the ScottishPower Retail Business Continuity Team. The placement is ideal for a 3rd / 4th year undergraduate studying a Business Continuity / Risk Management discipline.

Our Summer Placement programme operates from June through to September to coincide with the University term time with placements lasting approximately 12 weeks.


You will have the opportunity to be involved in essential activities related to the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS). This includes Business Impact Analysis, Risk Analysis and Exercising. With the integrated Retail and Generation BCMS there is an excellent opportunity to view the similarities and differences between theGeneration and Retail (office-based) environments.



Ideally, the successful candidate will be a 3rd / 4th year undergraduate studying a risk-based disciple and have:

  • An outgoing personality, capable of making a good first impression

  • The ability to build good working relationships in a short amount of time

  • An understanding of the benefits that a strong approach to Risk can bring to a modern business

  • A genuine interest in Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery

  • Knowledge of ISO 22301 (Business Continuity) and an awareness of ISO 27001 (Information Security)

  • A self-starter with a ‘can do’ attitude


  • 3rd / 4th year undergraduates from a Business Continuity / Risk Management background

  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must be currently in education, or have completed final year and awaiting their results. Evidence of education status will be required and is a condition of employment.
