Wood Summer Intern / On-call Biological Technician in St. Louis, Missouri

Overview / Responsibilities
Our Natural Resources Branch (3252) is recruiting for on-call Biological Technicians to work from our St. Louis, Missouri office. This is a position which will appeal to individuals with a solid aquatic biology or wildlife education, good work ethic, and genuine interest in field and laboratory work with a recognized team of professional biologists and aquatic scientists. The successful candidate will report to Senior Biologists and Project Managers associated with projects in the oil & gas and power sectors. Work will be performed to support compliance with environmental laws and regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, etc.). Successful performance in this position can lead to opportunities for regular, full-time employment as a Biologist within Amec Foster Wheeler.

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions invites qualified applicants with a Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing a Bachelor’s degree) in the field of biology, limnology, aquatic ecology, wildlife, environmental science or an equivalent discipline with 0-3 years direct work experience to apply for the position.

Key Responsibilities
This role will serve a critical function for implementation of field sampling and laboratory operations to support the preparation of client deliverables. Travel may be necessary. This position will support on-going environmental planning and natural resources projects with the following key responsibilities:
•Accurate collection of fish and aquatic macroinvertebrate samples from major rivers and reservoirs in the Midwest and nearby regions.
•Maintaining sample integrity, chain of custody, and quality control for all data collection activities
•GPS data collection for wetland delineations, botanical surveys, and terrestrial habitat/wildlife surveys
•Data entry and data analysis
•Laboratory responsibilities may include sample sorting and sample preparation

Skills / Qualifications
•The successful candidate will have (or be in pursuit of) a BS degree in biology, limnology, aquatic ecology, wildlife, botany, environmental science, or related discipline
•0-3 years of applicable experience in the performance of field biological studies; A general understanding of the classification and identification of fish, wildlife, and/or plant species of the Midwest is considered a strong asset
•Experience working in adverse weather conditions, capable of working long, physically demanding days and varied hours in remote locations
•Excellent safety record working with motorized boats and/or scientific field collection equipment is considered a strong asset
•Proficiency in the use of Geographical Positioning Systems (GPS) for collection of environmental data is a plus
•Valid driver’s license and good driving record for travel within the central US
