Contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first hand experience that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Must have good human relations and communications skills; must be able to follow procedures and instructions given by the leadership staff. Must have strong problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products.


The individual in this position will work with the Server and Datacenter Manager and the Cybersecurity Team to understand the security risks that exist within our server infrastructure and prioritize the mitigation of those risks. They will work with the Server Administrators to understand how specific mitigations might impact Sanford systems and their users. With this information they will work with the Server Administrators to develop a mitigation plan.

Internship responsibilities:

• Work with the Server Administrators to improve the overall security posture of Sanford’s Server infrastructure through further standardization of our server patch/reboot processes.

• Assist with the mitigation of the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerability by determining what systems cannot be patched to mitigate the vulnerability.

• Work with the Server Administrators to integrate servers into standard patch/reboot processes.

• Work with the Server Administrators to improve daily system security monitoring tasks as appropriate.

• Work with the Server Administrators to ensure that reporting from our vulnerability scanning tool is accurate and complete.

• May become involved with zero day or other high priority risk mitigation activities.

• May become involved with integration of our server infrastructure with other Cybersecurity Team tools.

Intern qualifications:

• An understanding of one or more of the following server operating systems (Microsoft Windows, IBM AIX, or various flavors of Linux).

• An understanding of proper configuration change control processes.

• Must be a junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a computing field such as Computer Information Systems, Cyber Operations, Cyber Security, Computer Science, or an immediate graduate having received one of the previously listed majors.

• Must be able to commit to the hours scheduled during the 12-week internship.
