Where you’ll work…

You’ll be based out of one off the 13 branches that offers programs ranging from health and wellness, to family programs, to child care, to aquatics (access is a staff benefit - swim a few laps before work, take a yoga class, do some laps on the track before you go home, if you like!). Specificallythe Seattle Y offers Programs throughout the greater Seattle area. The programs are located in Seattle Schools using classrooms, multipurpose rooms, gyms, outdoor spaces and take several field trips throughout the summer.

What you’ll be doing…

As the Lead Teacher you will be responsible for the design, development and delivery of hands on, engaging curriculum for academic and enrichment classes (Small Group). Lead teachers will instruct classes with a dedicated assistant teacher, allowing for leveled, small group instruction. You will work with a team of educators and YMCA staff to determine the academic and enrichment focus of your classes. You will also be responsible for analyzing student data to meet the individual needs of students.

In addition to teaching core classes each day, lead teachers will lead Small Group classes. Small Group consists of enrichment activities that focus on relationship building, leadership and fun. Teachers will be responsible for planning and implementing Small Group curriculum.

Principle Activities:

  1. Develop Curriculum

  2. Prepares for and provides training and/or instruction.

  3. Aligns curriculum with student academic needs.

  4. Collaborates on curriculum design and developing new training models.

  5. Teach Quality, Academically Enriching Classes.

  6. Implements curriculum, evaluates successful completion and maintains participant records.

  7. Provides assessment of participant's achievement of class outcomes; including pre-tests and post-tests.

  8. Work with staff team to provide program leadership.

  9. Will serve as lead teacher overseeing day-to-day duties of an assistant classroom teacher.

  10. May provide guidance to training team.

  11. Provides support through discussion and role modeling.

  12. Lead Enrichment/Small Group Activities.

  13. Facilitating activities for an assigned group of children that focus on: goal setting, life skills, college prep, and social skills.

You should have:

  1. Valid state teaching certificate.

  2. Five or more years experience teaching adults and/or youth.

  3. Three plus years experience in design and delivery of academic curriculum such as science, math reading, writing or social studies, other subjects, as appropriate.

  4. Ability to design and deliver hands on, engaging academic classes.

  5. Knowledge of and experience with innovative delivery techniques.

  6. Ability to travel to various locations.

  7. Ability to speak any language in addition to English preferred
