Job Summary

INVESTING NOW is currently seeking engineering students to facilitate afternoon engineering projects in robotics for the pre-college 5 week summer program June 25-July 26, 2018 on Mondays-Thursdays from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Aim of summer program: To introduce and develop a basic working knowledge of LEGO robotics programming and Arduino to a class of 20-25 local area high school upcoming freshmen; to explore programming, logic, and mathematical concepts through instruction and friendly competition, to raise awareness of and exposure to engineering and to teach experimental design and “how to think like a scientist/engineer”; to show “What do engineers DO?”; to tie in connections with real-world applications.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements and Skills: • Current University of Pittsburgh engineering or computer science student in good standing • Preferably, experience volunteering and working with high school students • Working knowledge of LEGO Mindstorms NXT2.0 robotics and basic Arduino

Responsibilities: • Instruct and help students trouble shoot their projects • Preferably available all 19 days (July 4 off) from 1:00PM-3:00PM, but may work as class schedule permits • Attend three summer instructor meetings -tentatively May 29 at 5:00 pm, July 9 and 23 at 12:00 PM • Attend a Summer Kick-Off Meeting for students and parents on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:00 pm in 157 Benedum Hall. • help Monitor students’ class performance and level of participation.
