University of Notre Dame Summer AmeriCorps positions (Minimum-Time) with the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) Youth Development Program in Notre Dame, Indiana
The RCLC Youth Development Program offers summer programming for youth, grades 1-12. The curriculum includes academic enrichment, activities focused on entrepreneurship and innovation, youth leadership training, hands-on creative activities, and field trips.
AmeriCorps Position Summary:
The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for helping to facilitate the RCLC Youth Development Summer Program as well as coordinating short term projects and events.
Assist in coordination of morning program activities. This may include: working with students and RCLC staff to develop and implement curriculum, leading projects and activities, making arrangements for field trips and speakers, recruiting volunteers to assist, greeting children and parents at the beginning and end of the day, tracking attendance, and maintaining RCLC records as required.
Assist in implementation of Afternoon Summer Program. This may include: leading activities, gathering supplies and resources, communicating with parents, working with children individually as well as in groups, and preparing meals/snacks.
Document program activities through photographs and text, and submit information to the RCLC web site and Facebook page.
Attend orientation and training, as well as summer staff and team meetings at the RCLC.
AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations. This position is a service position, rather than traditional “jobs.”
A minimum-time AmeriCorps member must complete 300 hours of service by the end of the summer. On completion of the 300 hours, the member will receive an education award.
Compensation for Minimum-Time members is as follows:
Living Allowance: $1000 for the summer. Education Award $1,222 on completion of 300 service hours.
High school diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident alien.
Reliable transportation is a plus.
Additional Qualifications include:
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Interest in education, working with at-risk youth, and community development.
Public speaking and the ability to teach/train others.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and some on-line systems.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work in a variety of settings.
Sensitivity, compassion, and listening skills required to work with a diverse audience including: RCLC staff, volunteers, fellow AmeriCorps members, Notre Dame and community partners, RCLC participants (ranging in age from early childhood through senior citizens), neighborhood residents, and families of youth participants.
