Groundskeeper (Fixed term - May- August )
National Life Group Facilities Management provides a wide range of services to employees, tenants and guests of National Life Group to ensure a safe, ergonomically sound, functional, and aesthetically pleasing landscape. This position performs general maintenance work for all facilities at the home office complex. Good human relations and communication skills with a team orientation is essential. Duties and responsibilities of this position may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of department management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Perform routine and non-routine maintenance of landscapes, including mowing fields and lawns, tree and shrub care, and brush and invasive plant removal.
Maintain and clean buildings, parking garage, structures, which may include basic carpentry and painting tasks.
Assures that the parking areas are free from snow, ice and other debris through operation of tractors, snow blower, shoveling and sanding walks.
Operates lawn mowers, trims trees and shrubs, weeds gardens, rakes lawns, plants ground cover, assures pest control and assures outside premises are in good appearance.
Maintains maintenance logs on all equipment, maintains property maintenance logs on computer.
Properly disposes of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with Agency of Natural Resources.
Maintenance of site drainage systems via state EPA regulations. Parking lot sweeping, sidewalk sealing. Welding – Performs welding, brazing, and soldering.
Clean and perform routine maintenance and repairs to equipment and tools.
Remove trash and litter from grounds and parking.
Highly motivated, capable of working independently and cooperatively with other staff, and have a good eye for detail.
Comfortable and competent using hand tools and operating landscaping equipment (e.g., mowers, brush saws, and leaf blowers).
Help others complete office moves and conference room setups.
Unscheduled maintenance – completed to minimize down time of equipment.
Preventive maintenance – completed to minimize unscheduled maintenance and failures.
Perform tasks safely and in accordance with NLG safety manual. Must complete 2 hour safety training seminar on first day of employment.
Ability to maintain an on-call status during snow season for snow removal operations.
Wear a company provided uniform and personnel protected equipment.
A valid driver’s license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The National Life Group driving policy.
A background free of criminal activities as validated via acceptable criminal background check (CORI).
The ability to lift/carry 50 pounds.
Able to work in all weather conditions including heat and rain.
Team Work – communicates and collaborates well with others.
High School diploma or the equivalent.
Excellent communication skills, self motivated, action and results oriented.
OSHA 10 training is recommended.
