Sherman Associates, Inc. Hospitality Internship - Summer 2018 in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Descriptions:

Sherman Associates is currently seeking a dedicated and driven individual to join our Hospitality Internship program! This exciting 90-day training program will teach you the essential functions of hospitality through a rotation of departments, hands on experience, mentoring, and self-learning.

This program will begin May/June 2018 and will assist Sherman's 3 hotels:

  • Aloft Minneapolis

  • Sheraton Duluth

  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites Des Moines


  • Sales & Revenue - Gain an understanding on how to manage and maximize hotel revenue through analyzing and implementing revenue management strategies.

  • Front Desk - Learn and demonstrate effective operations of the front desk and auxiliary functions (if applicable)and how it affects overall guest service and profitability of the hotel.Make appointments, show apartments, screen applicants, and verify applications for completion.

  • Food & Beverage - Spend time working with restaurants, bartenders, and banquets as applicable to gain understanding of the food and beverage operation.

  • Transportation & Shuttle - Learn the duties and responsibilities of hotel transportation services and the impact on guest service.

  • Management - With the help of a mentor gains an understanding of the supervisory/management skills necessary to effectively manage a department and team, resulting in optimum financial success, guest satisfaction and employee relations.

  • Housekeeping - Gain an understanding of the overall housekeeping operations to include guest rooms, public areas, and outside grounds.

Housing assistance is not provided with this role.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (in process) or equivalent experience; ideally in Hospitality or a related field.

  • 1-3 years customer service experience (in hospitality or related field).

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; Ability to communicate effectively with guests, vendors / external parties, and across corporate divisions.

  • Detail oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • As applicable, must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with insurance and safe DMV driving record.
