U.S. Engineering’s Externship Program supports key business and cultural objectives by developing and enriching key community and industry relationships into the organization. Through the Externship Program, STEM teachers from our community have the unique opportunity to connect theory and classroom practice by applying strategies in the workplace environment. Professionals are then able to acquire practical work experience, gain an understanding of the USE culture and take this knowledge back to the classroom to share with their students.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities:
The USE Externship program will be a full-time, four- or six-week, temporary summer position for secondary teachers of math, science, engineering and/or construction.
The duration of the program will generally be from the beginning of June through mid-July, or as mutually agreed.
Flexible work schedules can be accommodated, but Extern Partners are expected to work at least six hours a day.
Teachers will be matched based on business need, teacher’s interests and skills.
Previous industry experience is not required; however, previous experience and skill set will be considered to determine placement.
Project details will be determined closer to the start of the program.
Teachers will be expected to complete an evaluation and present to the U.S. Engineering Executive Committee at the completion of the program.
Education, Work Experience and/or Training typically possessed by qualified candidate.
The ideal Extern Candidate will:
Be a high school teacher specializing in a STEM or construction discipline, and interested in an opportunity to help shape and develop an emerging program.
Have the ability to be proactive and guided by self-motivation.
Be willing to provide thoughtful feedback and participate in an end-of-program evaluation and presentation.
Physical and/or travel demands:
Frequent sitting, use of keyboard/monitor, use of 10-key and use of telephone.
No travel required.
