Volvo Group Intern: System Support Specialist (Summer 2018) in Greensboro, North Carolina


This position performs analytical, technical, and administrative work in efforts to support local end-users, remote end-users, and production lines. Additionally this position utilizes global processes and tools to achieve the end results. The System Support Specialist goal is to achieve total end-user satisfaction for technical issues by possessing exceptional customer service skills, willingness to work overtime, and most importantly working as a team.

The summer internship begins on May 14th and ends August 10th.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent daily support (including trouble shooting and user request) to Volvo users worldwide to protect on-going business

  • Proactively identify improvement areas including application system, business process and IT support process

  • Monitor and improve system performance

  • Continuously improve system functionality via developing change requests from users

  • Responsible for system version upgrade activity

  • Deliver IT service upon KPI and SLA

  • Analyze business requirements and provide sound system solutions

  • Regularly communicate with business users and customers about service level and business requirements and seek feedback

  • Develop and enhance ITIL based service management processes

Essential Skills & Experience

  • A person in this position must have technical knowledge of current Windows environment and previous 2 releases

  • Excellent Customer service skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP and networking principles

  • Desire to learn and be part of a team

  • Strong analytical ability to troubleshoot complex problems

  • Strong initiative-taking and follow-through skills, strong ownership and sense of responsibility

  • Ability to work effectively in a flexible, changing and challenging environment, manage multiple activities and priorities and work well under pressure

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in either Computer Science, or equivalent technical training with IT experience at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship

  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
