As a non-profit service organization, MTF is dedicated to providing quality tissue through a commitment to excellence in education, research, recovery and care for recipients, donors and their families. Since our inception in 1987, MTF has recovered more than 60,000 donors and has distributed more than 3 million grafts for transplantation. The Research and Development organization within MTF strives to maximize the donor gift by designing and developing new ways of using and processing musculoskeletal tissue as grafts or combined with other materials to create novel medical devices. Research scientists and engineers work together with surgeons to determine the needs of the recipient, and provide them with safety and efficacy data to support the appropriate use of the grafts. RESPONSIBILITIES The R&D Intern will assist the senior level R&D staff throughout their time at MTF. There will be a variety of activities associated with Wound Care, General & Plastic Surgery product development efforts, including, but not limited to the following: * He/She will perform research efforts as required (via literature searches) and compile summaries of all relevant information. * He/She will research competitive products and continue to update competitive information libraries for both wound care and general & plastic surgery. * He/She will process amnion tissue for wound care development projects as well as dermal tissue for general and plastic surgery projects. (Specifically assessing the ability to process whole amnion as well as increasing dermal yield per donor). * He/She will perform testing in accordance with stability study protocols to generate shelf life data. Thank you!*** Prerequisite for all MTF Summer Interns: * Must be currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year regionally or nationally accredited college or university. Student must be a continuing student through the fall of 2018 at a minimum. Graduating College/University Seniors are not eligible unless they are enrolled in a graduate program. * Students must be able to work MTF's standard business hours of 8:15am-4:30pm EST, Monday-Friday * The program is expected to run from 06/04/2018-08/17/2018; students should be available during this entire 10 week period. * Students may be immediate family members of employees of MTF, but it is not required. Internship positions will be filled based upon company need and student skill set/education. We having 5-7 students join us for the summer of 2018. Job Qualifications (education, certification, experience, knowledge, skills, physical requirements) 1. Completion of at least two to three years college credit toward a degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering 6. Good organizational ability, good communication skills, and ability to work independently as well as with others.
