The Spaceship Company (TSC) is Virgin Galactic’s wholly owned space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system. Who You Are

The Spaceship Company is looking for highly energetic, ambitious, passionate students to join our team as interns during the Summer of 2018. You will be creative, innovative and share in our passion for opening space. The knowledge and skillsets required to be successful will be demonstrated through extensive coursework and participation in related projects and extracurriculars.

For approximately 12 weeks you will be immersed in our incredible culture and work on challenging and meaningful projects that directly relate to company goals. The hands-on experience you will gain along with opportunities to engage with our exceptional executives, engineers and other professionals will be incredibly valuable in shaping the foundation for your future.

Materials & Process Engineering:

  • Develops and refines material and process requirements for the vehicle based on customer and design requirements.

  • Evaluates materials data from the prototype program for verification and validation purposes and identifies further testing or development work.

  • Authors materials and process specifications.

  • Implements and manages materials testing programs.

  • Reviews test data and undertakes post testing activities including design allowable calculations, equivalency determinations and failure mode analysis.

  • Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited university, pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science or Physics.

  • Minimum 3.5 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Related hands-on experience in the form of school projects, engineering related clubs/project teams, research, etc.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability and desire to work effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment.

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicants must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
